Introduction to Walnut Wood

Black walnut wood belongs to the walnut family and is a precious wood native to the United States. It mainly grows in broad-leaved hardwood forests in the temperate zone of North America.

Its natural color is deep and mostly brown or chocolate-colored. The grain is graceful and varied, with a strong artistic sense. The texture is delicate and silky, making it look very luxurious.

What's even rarer is that black walnut wood is very stable in nature and is one of the least likely to crack or deform among common hardwoods.

Due to its outstanding properties, black walnut wood is highly favored by designers and is used in expensive pianos, yacht and car interiors, and avant-garde artistic spaces.

 Varied and Artistic Grain

Affected by the large temperature difference between day and night and the cold winter in the Appalachian Mountains, black walnut wood has irregular grain patterns and unique black and gray lines.

It is rare for a type of wood to have two different grain patterns, but black walnut wood has six: wave pattern, mountain pattern, straight line pattern, golden nodule pattern, bird peck pattern, and water drop pattern.

 Reasons for High Price

Reason 1: Difficulty in Maturity Black walnut wood has a long growth cycle and requires 50-100 years to mature, while ordinary trees can start to turn a profit in about 15 years.

Reason 2: Scarcity Due to excessive development in the past, the amount of black walnut wood in the United States accounts for only 1% of all broad-leaved forests. To promote sustainable development, it has been included in the list of limited logging species, increasing its scarcity.

Reason 3: Low Yield Not only is black walnut wood more expensive than other woods, but its production costs are also very high.

It has a high waste rate with white edge scars and other waste, and can only use the core material for furniture production, with a yield of less than 30%.
